"Our tour guide Christi was very…"
Our tour guide Christi was very personable as well as being very knowledgeable about our stops along the way. She made this whirlwind tour comfortable and enjoyable. Our driver Steve was a steely eyed driver around some pretty tight hairpin switchbacks. We had a wonderful trip experience due to these two wonderful people.

"Stay away from Gate One travel and Jet Blue."
They canceled our trip to Peru. We bought insurance and didn't get our flight money or insurance back. Kept getting the run around from Gate one and jet blue. They kept blaming each other. Stay away from these companies they will stick it to you. Our group lost alot of money.

Gate 1 Lies to Customer
My friend and I booked Gate 1 India Trip 6 months ahead of the trip start. In the four months before the trip start, my friend feel she is not able to go. Meanwhile, my other friend wants to go. So I call Gate 1 to ask is it possible to change the second participant name.
After several phone call and spent many hours waiting on the phone, I was told it is better to cancel our booking and rebook with the new participants. I was told by both Gate 1 Representative and one of the supervisor named Deb Gardner that I will get credit of our deposit to towards my next booking, because of 1) this cancellation is 100 days Møre before the trip start; 2) I am an new customer of Gate 1,that is my first cancellation, so I am eligible to get credit .
However, after I follow this advice to cancel our booking, no credit has been given to me. I lost the $600 deposit for nothing. I call and write email to gate 1 to address this issue, no one take care of it, they seems know it is their game!

"Ecuador...We adored!"
We just got back from the Gate 1 Ecuador, Andes, Amazon tour ( April 25-April 31, 2023) with our fabulous tour manager Daniel Solano. We were on a Classic Tour but with 20 guests it felt more personal. Daniel took care of our group in the most professional way from start to finish. He called us "family" and we felt like family. He was knowledgeable, charismatic, kind, funny, helpful, considerate- all the very things you hope for in a tour manager. It was because of him, we believe, that our group got along so well and had such a great experience. This was our first Gate 1 trip and now know it will be the first of many more to come. We loved the places and experiences from Quito through the Andes and Amazon Rain Forest. Ecuador is a beautiful and unique country. We have traveled with other companies and on our own and this trip rates 5 stars.

"7 Day Galapagos Express not for people over 60 or so"
I just returned from the 7 Day Galapagos Express trip with Gate 1. In a nutshell, this trip kicked my senior citizen butt. It is very fast paced with a lot of walking. I walked more than 5 miles several times. The hiking is for VERY fit and experienced hikers on volcanic rock and uneven stones. The hotel in Baltra was nice but great for mountain goats. There were no elevators and some rooms were up three and four flights of curving stairs. Food and prices were decent. My son, a former Marine, had to rescue two people from drowning when the guide took them snorkeling. These were people with little or no experience in deep water and I questioned why the guide even allowed them to go. There is a lot of getting on and off small boats. I would recommend anyone over 60 or so to see the sights of the Galapagos on the Discovery Channel. I went in the first week in May and the weather was very hot, which made the walking even more tiring. The first day in Baltra we got off the flight and started our hike. We had been up since 4:00 am and the hike lasted until 5 or 6 so everyone was really tired. It's going to take me several days to recover from this trip.

"Closing the Gate on Gate 1"
We are a group of four women who wanted to book a 9-day Classic National Parks Tour with Gate 1. We decided on one date to depart and another for a backup. We called late Thursday (4/20/23) evening, no one answered. We called again Friday (4/21/23) at 9:00 a.m. Three of us already had accounts. One one of us did not. The agent had to setup this account twice, as he lost the first one. We also got disconnected from Gate 1 and they called us back. He also read info to us which took up more time. After 45 minutes, I just had to give him my credit card number. When I gave him my info, the agent stated there is only room for two on the bus, not four. He then wanted to know if the two people were willing to tour without the other two. This entire experience was a nightmare! In addition, there wasn't one supervisor available that I could speak to. A supervisor called me three days later saying the agent followed the correct protocol. It appears customer service is non-existent at Gate 1. They are not the only game in town. I will be using other companies for my future trips.

"I just came back from an 8 day Italy…"
I just came back from an 8 day Italy trip. Venice, Florence, and Rome. Amazing trip loved it I traveled solo and my first international trip. Max our tour guide was incredible he for sure knows Italy. Carlo the bus driver was so nice. The hotels were great however the one in Florence was okay.
I will be using Gate1 again.

WE WERE VERY PLEASE WITH THE ENTIRE TRIP TO ISRAEL BETHLEHEMJERUSALEM. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME IN THE HOLY LAND. I WAS SORRY THAT WE DID NOT GET TO SEE JORDAN BUT MAYBE ONOUR SECOND TRIP BACK FOR A LONGER STAY,MY HUSBAND HAD ONLY ONE WEEK VACATION. I ENJOYED THE DEAD SEA AND GALLELY, THE VISIT TO THE KABUTS AND SPENT LOUNCH WITH THE LOCAL PEOPLE HIDING OUT FROM SEREA, I CANT WAIT FOR OUR NEXT VACATION WHITH GATE 1 TRAVEL.

SINCE WE PURCHASED WHEN MAKING OUR RESERVATION I BOOKED WITH THE TOUR GUDE NOT REMEMBERING THAT WE ALREADY BOOKED IT SO WE PAYED THE TOUR GUIDE AGAIN WITH THE SAME CREDIT CARD THAT I CHARGED THE ENTIRE TOUR MY CHECHING BANKING SHOWED A CHARGE OF $356.00 PLEASE REVERSE BACK TO THAT SAME ACCOUT I'M SORRY FOR MY MISTAKE AND ANY INCONVINIENCE. THANK YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TRAVELING WITH GATE 1 VERY SOON SINCE MY HUBBY IS RETIRING AND WILL GO FOR A LONGER TOURS,.

"Just returned from the 9 Day Classic…"
Just returned from the 9 Day Classic Egypt Tour. EXCELLENT!! All the venues including the hotels and Nile cruise ship were top notch. The entire tour was very well organized with plenty of wonderful things to see. Our tour director Tarek was outstanding- very knowledgeable, organized, friendly and helpful, couldn’t have had a better guide. And the price was very affordable! Can’t recommend it highly enough. Definitely can’t wait for our next Gate 1 tour!

There were at least 5 on the trip that I knew of that had or got COVID
People were not masking and when the bus guide asked everyone to mask not all did
COVID was/is horrible
Why can’t people obey the rules
I don’t know who had COVID but 4 of us had our shots and 3 boosters
It was a great trip and met some great friends
Guides were wonderful
But don’t know if I’ll ever go again

"Unreliable and unreachable"
We have gone on 4 trips and loved them all but we learned the that they own the flight until the flight. If the flight is cancelled, they simply cancel the flights for the entire trip and rebook at last minute rates without any credit for what has already been paid. While in transit, we were denied boarding on our second flight. I called both the US and European "emergency" numbers twice to indicate that we were unable to participate in the tour. NO ONE answered. They are refusing any compensation because I didn't cancel the tour. We couldn't get to the tour; they were unavailable for us to cancel; but they claim they are blameless.

We loved Gate1 until our flight that we booked through them was cancelled. We have gone on 5 trips and loved them all but we learned the hard way about their policy. They own the flight until the flight. If flight is cancelled, they simply cancel the flights for the entire trip and rebook at last minute rates. They called us to tell us it would be $2200 more and we would need to arrive a day early (meaning lose another day of work) and pay an additional $220 for hotel. This became no longer an Affordable Trip to Italy.

"Avoid if possible"
Gate 1 is unreachable for problems. I called the US and Spain "emergency" numbers twice each because we were unable to board our flight and needed to cancel the tour. No one answered any of the four calls. They then denied that they owed us any compensation for the tour because we failed to cancel it. They fail to support their customers, which is unfortunate because their in-country staff are hard-working and knowledgeable.

We have been traveling with Gate1Travel many times and always enjoyed its tour guides. Not always the cheapest but the best customer service! Henry Maaravi (Israel tour guide) was the best so far! We also know many others have traveled with Gate1Travel and were impressed with the quality of the resources provided.

"I’ve taken many trips over the years…"
I’ve taken many trips over the years with Gate 1 prior to Covid. All were exquisitely memorable and wonderful experiences! However I booked one trip where they paid for my travel because it was included. I learned from that one experience to always book my own travel. Fortunately I chose to book different return flights from China. My travel partner was stuck 3 days in the airport while I had the best experiences getting to my destination even though my flight cancelled due to a flat tire, the airline placed us in two hotels with meals and arrived in less than two days. I also learned never book travel insurance through Gate1 the hard way. Note that even if you use outside insurance they give you a hard time providing documentation. Post Covid our flights cancelled to Fiji due to a cyclone. Our travel insurance company paid us in full after 30 days. Do your homework. Protect yourself while traveling.
